OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY
As of 1 July 2006 the OH&S Regulations changed in Victoria and Building Designers now have a responsibility for OH&S. This means there is an added onus on fire system designers to be vigilant in considering all and any OH&S implications of their designs. We have identified a number of potential areas where OH&S problems could occur and can assist in ensuring you do not get caught out.
UPDATE 2011: National OH&S Legislation is imminent and will incorporate design responsibility nationally. Are you aware of the implications as a designer? If not we can assist.

REGISTERED BUILDING PRACTITIONERS such as myself are being given more recognition by the Building Commission Victoria. Hence the new logo shown elsewhere.
Please contact the Building Practitioners Board at the BCV if you are unsure whether the certifier you are about to use is registered. This problem commonly arises in rural areas where there are some inspectors and testers that are not registered with the BCV or listed by the Australian Fire Safety Practitioners Accreditation Board.
A current list is downloadable from the National Fire Industry Association web site -www.nfia.com.au under Links.
REMEMBER:
If your fire system is not certified or tested by a Registered Building Practitioner or AFSPAB accredited person, the certification/test may be rejected by the owners Building Surveyor.
NOTE: BCV registration is recognised now in Tasmania and Northern Territory but as yet we have not come to any agreement with the BSA in Queensland or the BPB in New South Wales. |
